The coastal state of Kerala lying on the Southwestern Tip of India has Commonly called the Tropical Paradise of India. The temperature normally ranges from 28’C to 32’ C (82’F to 90’ F) on the plains but drops to about 20’C (68’ F) in the highlands.The Climate Can be Divided into Four seasons – Winter, Summer, South-West Monsoon and North-East Monsoon. The coastal state Kerala has hot and humid climate during April-May and pleasant , cold climate During December-January. Kerala has a wet and maritime tropical climate influenced by the seasonal heavy rains of the Sothwest Summar Monsoon and Northeast Winter Monsoon .
Winter Season : The winter Season Fall during the month of December and continues till end of February.Occasionally very little rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning takes place in the northern region of the state. During this season temperature is comparatively low and less rainfall.
Summar Season : The Summar Season Fall during the month of February and continues till end May. Relatively higher temperature, low rainfall and slightly humid weather are the characteristics of the summer season in Kerala. Erratic rains accompanied by lightening and thunder is another feature . Kottayam receives the highest rainfall during this season.
South West Monsoon Season The South West Monsoon begins During the month of either May or June and continues till end September.During this period Peerumedu in Idukki and Vaithiri-Kuttiyadi range in Malabar receive the highest rainfall. The rainfall is comparatively low in the Lakshadweep islands.In the northern regions of Kerala, the rainfall is around 80% and in the southern regions the rainfall ranges from 40-50%.
North East Monsoon Season : The North East Monsoon begins in the month of October and continues till end of December. Also known as the Retreating Monsoon or the Reverse monsoon in Kerala . Days are warm and humid but there is not much variation in temperature. Heavy afternoon rains accompanied by thunder and lightening is the main characteristic of the season.
