Idukki Arch Dam is Dam Located in Idukki District of Kerala Standing at the height of 551 feet tall. The Dam is highest Arch Dam in Asia and third tallest dam. Idukki Arc Dam is in the form Arc and stands between the two mountains – Kuravanmala about 839 meter high and Kurathimala about 925 meter high. It was constructed bu Kerala State Electricity Board and supports 780 MW hydroelectric power station.
Two Other dams were also included in the Arch Dam namely Cheruthoni and Kulamavu and thus the lake formed is about 60 km² in area. Idukki Dam is surrounded by lush green and dense forests and offers traveler and tourist an ideal place to enjoy in the lap of nature . Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is also located here . Elephants, bisons, sambars deers, wild dogs, jungle cats, tigers, wild boars , and variety of Snakes like Cobra, viper, krait and a number of non poisonous snakes can be seen in the forests. One can also find array of bird species here.
