Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is also called as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary , it is located in Kumarakom in Kottayam District of Kerala . national park lies on the bank of Vembanad Lake that’s why it is also called by its name. The Sanctuary is an excellent place for bird watcher as it is home to numerous migratory birds an ornithologist’s paradise.
Sprawling over 14 acres of land on bank of the Kavanar River , it is one of the most famous tourist spot in Kumarakom . Kumarakom are also famous for its backwaters and one can explore the sanctuary through backwater cruises also . Birds like waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron, cormorant, moorhen, darter, Brahminy kite and the duck, as well as the migratory Siberian crane. Parrot, teal, lark, flycatcher can be spotted here.
