1 -Anamudi Peak (Near Munnar)
Situated at a distance of 15kms from Munnar, it is the highest peak in South India and also the highest after the Himalaya- Karakoram range at a height of 8842mts above the sea level. Located inside the Eravikulam National Park, it is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Kerala. The trek starts at foothill of Eravikulam and takes at least 3 days to cover the trek. It is advisable to have some prior trekking experience before embarking upon this journey.
2- Peeru hills
The hill station named after Peer Mohammad, the sufi saint who spent his last days here is a popular destination among the trekkers and the wildlife lovers. Situated in the serene Idukki, the summer palace of the royal family and the residence of Diwan situated here are worth a visit. It is situated 4kms from the Peermedu Hill Station.
3- Ramakkalmedu
Located at a distance of 34kms from Idukki, the hill top of Ramakkalmedu offers a panoramic view of the villages of Kamban and the surrounding places with the green mountain slopes and the fresh air. The view point on the top of the hill can be reaches by a 4kms simple trek from Ramakalmedu Junction.
4- Ponmudi
Ponmudi also called the golden peak is located at an altitude of 1100m above the sea level and located 61 km north-east of the Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is surrounded by lush green forests all around, and you won’t find any place greener than this. The Golden Valley offers vistas of the hills and access to the Kallar River. Flowing though a wilderness area, it has rounded pebbles, cool water, fish, and lush green trees.
5- Vellari Mala
Situated atop 2200mts above the sea level, the tiny hamlet of Vellari Mala is also known as Camel’s Hump Mountain due to its unique similarity to a camel’s hump. Trekking to Vellari Mala starts from Muthappanpuzha, 3 Kms from Anakkampoyil and takes up to one day to reach the peak though the trek is of easy level and accessible for most parts of the year.
6- Agasthyarkoodam Peak
It is the second highest peak in Kerala after the Anamudi peak and is located within the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary situated at an elevation of 6201 feet above the sea level. There are two routes to reach the peak of Agasthyakoodam, one from Kotoor near Neyyar Dam and other one is Bonacaud. The trek distance is about 28 Kms and takes 2 days. Guided treks are also arranged with overnight stay at camp inside the forest.
7- Chembra peak
Located at a distance of 17kms from Kalpetta it is the third highest peak in South India situated at an elevation of 2100mts above the sea level. A trekker’s paradise it is the part of the Wayanad hills in the Western Ghats. The trek is considered to be of moderate level and taken mostly by experienced trekkers the total trek is of 11kms to the hill you can camp at the top and enjoy the majestic environs of the Western Ghats.
8- Puliyarkota Waterfalls
Located near Kalpetta, this cascading waterfall drops from a height of 1000feet through multiple stages and blocks. One of the most beautiful locations in Kerala the trek to these waterfalls is easy and enjoyable as it is surrounded by lush green forests.
9- Pakshipathalam
Located on the top of Brahamagiri hills at an elevation of 2700mts above the sea level, Pakshipathalam is abode of a large number of bird’s species. The hilltop is accessible only by a trek starting from Thirunely temple and special permission is required from the forest department to trek here.
10- Dhoni Hills
Located at a distance o 12kms from Palakkad, the Dhoni hills is a reserve forest adjacent to the Malampuzha Reservoir. At a distance of 4kms from the bottom of the hills takes you to the beautiful Azhakampara waterfall. It is one of the least visited and untouched destinations of Kerala and far away from commercialization.
