Chembra Peak

Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad district of the Indian state of Kerala located at an altitude of 2100 m above the sea level.The region is entirely natural surrounded by tea estates on both sides of the road. There are not many interesting places to visit in Chembra Peak, because the region mainly serves as a natural resort for tired souls. The town of Chembra Peak is also famous among tourists mainly because of its proximity to the city of Kalpetta.

While trekking to the Chembra Peak, you can visit heart-shaped crystal perennial lake fed by natural springs in the halfway.This is a must see location that many locals and tourists alike flock to. You can also visit three-storied forest watch tower, which is located in the foothills of Peak.

Sleeping bags, canvas, log huts, guides and trekking equipments are provided by the District Tourism Promotion Council. Accommodation facilities are not very best here but some Guest Houses and Cottages are available nearby. There are many mediums via which you can reach the town of Kalpetta. Winter season (December to February) is the best time to visit Chembra peak and nearby places.

How To Reach Chembra Peak

From Meppady one can access Chembra Peak by foot. Permission from the forest office in Meppady is required for trekking up to Chembra Peak. It is located about 11 km from National Highway 212. KSRTC and private bus operators of Kerala and nearby states offers bus service to this fascinating hill station.Meppadi is 11 km from Chundale, in the State Highway 29, connecting Chundale to Ooty.

By Road– It is located in Wayanad District of Kerala India .Buses go frequently between important centres like Mysore, Bangalore, Ootty, etc.More than 50% of the traffic in and out of Wayanad passes through NH 212. Wayanad is a popular destination of Kerala and have a good road network. Chembra Peaks are located about 22 KM from Wayanad city. One can takde bus from the city center .

By Air– Kozhikode International Airport is the nearest airport to Wayanad. From Kozhikode there are various bus facilities to Wayanad. Reaching Wayanad one can take bus to reach th Hill station.

By Train– Kozhikode Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Wayanad.
