Unnakai is very Famous and most popular snacks in Malabar Region of India. It is a spindle shaped sweet dessert made chiefly of Plantain.Unnakai is Basically made on Special Occasions like at weddings, Iftar and other festivities. Unnakai is light Food mainly Prepared During Ramadan time for Nombu thurakkal in Malabar Region of South India.
Ingredients
Ripe Banana | 4 |
Grated coconut | 1 1/2 Cup |
Sugar | 1/2 Cup |
Cardamom powder | 1/2 tsp |
Chopped cashew nuts | 1/2 Cup |
Raisins | 1/4 Cup |
Oil | as needed |
Ghee | 1tbsp |
How to Make
- For preparing unnakai , Steam the Ripe plantains till soft.
- Add cardamom powder and Mash the cooked banana with hand.
- Heat the Ghee Pan and add cashews, raisins and Coconut.
- Add sugar into Heat Pan and mix well till coconut become light brown.
- Make small balls out of mashed plantains.
- Grease your hands with a little oil.
- Press the ball with your fingers keeping the plantain inside the other palm.
- Fill coconut mixture in between, close and roll in oval long shape.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan
- Fry this unnakai at medium heat till brown.
Unnakai is ready to Serve with hot tea.
