Chalakudy History
Chalakudy is a Municipal Town Situated on the Banks of Chalakudy River in Thrissur District of the Kerala State in India .Chalakudy Municipality came into existence in the year 1970 . According to the Hindu religious scholars and local legends, the town derived its name as ” Chalakudy ” from the word Shalakudy, which means a spot where sacrifices are largely made. According to the historians, this place had historical importance as it served the Mysore ruler, Tipu Sultan as the base of operations camp during his warriors attack on the Travancore lines. Later this place was under the Kingdom of Kochi and then occupied by the British.
