Muziris Port the ancient trading port of Kerala which is loaded with vast and rich historical facts and starting point of various historical events is a port whose exact location is not yet known but its found that it stretches from Ernakulam to Thrissur District and comprising of four panchayats in Ernakulam district (Chennamangalam, Chittatukara, Vadakekkara, Pallippuram) and three panchayats in Thrissur district ( Eriyad, Mathilakam and Sreenarayanapuram). There are numerous monuments and architectural wonders of various diverse culture that used to live here or were important traders during ancient times.
The port was visited by traders like the Phoenicians, the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Roman Empire who come from sea routes to trade with pearls, diamonds, sapphires, ivory, Chinese silk, Gangetic spikenard and tortoise shells and in return for valuable items like metals multicoloured textiles and more. It was here only at Azhikode where Christianity first came in India . or Cherman Juma Masjid the first Mosque of India was constructed. The surviving elements of Muziris comprise not only buildings but also the markets, streets and footways, bridges, and cemeteries and mostly in the region of Chennamangalam and Kodungalloor.
