Places to See in Kottayam

Kottayam is one of the largest town in Kerala state where many ideal place is situated for picnic spot like lake and virgin hill station with green trees and meadows.There are various beautiful and archaeological pilgrimage places located here like churches, temples and many more. Some of the tourist spots are-

Ettumanoor: :It is located 15kms from Kottayam The Ancient Shiva Temple is situated in this place that famous for its seven and a half golden elephants, a sequence of seven large and one small statues of elephants.Thousand’s of year wall painting is having in this temple

Vembanad Lake: The vembanad lake is famous for Cruise boats, house boats and traditional cargo boats.The length of the Vembanad lake is 83.72 km and Width of the lake is 14.48 km.

Kumarakom: It is located in Kuttanad at the distance of 14 km west of Kottayam.
The place is famous for its bird sanctuary, house boats, backwaters, canals and the bungalow of Henry Bake. Kumarakon place is managed by the taj group of hotel run as a part of resort.

Pathiramanal ::Pathiramanal is a small white sand island which is located in the middle of the Vembanad lake.It gets its name from the brilliant reflection of moonlight from the sand.It is also known as the Midnight sand.

Thazhathangady Juma Masjid: Thazhathangady Juma Masjid is located around 7 km from Kottayam, Thazhathangady Juma Masjidlies on the banks of the Meenachil River near to the Thiruverpu Temple.It is
listed as one of the Heritage Zones.

Thirunakkara Mahadevar Shiva Temple: .It was constructed at the beginning of 16th century by a South Indian ruler named Thekkumkoor Maharajah.The Temple architecture is built in Kerala style with interior murals depicting themes from the Hindu epics.

Manarcad: It is located about 9km from the town of Kottayam and is on the way to tourist town of Thekkady. It is known for the Manarcad Perunnal, the annual feast at the St. Mary’s Church,which is usually held in the first few days of September.

St. Mary’s Church: St. Mary’s Church is located about 10km from the town of Kottayam in Kerala, India.St.Mary’s Church Belonging to the Malankara Orthodox Church was built in 1579 by the Raja of Thekkumkur.The interior murals, painted using vegetable dyes, depict Biblical themes.
