Munnar means three rivers in Malayalam as it is surrounded by three rivers that merges here.Munnar was discovered by Scottish tea planters but Britishers were the first who developed it for tea cultivation. In the early period of its development tamilians worked here as there were very few malayalis those resided there. The local and official language of Munnar is Malayalam, where as Tamil is also spoken here by many inhibitors.British Lawyer J D Munro a tea planter also leased about 600km sq of land from subordinates of Maharaja Of Travancore. He cleared the jungle for tea cultivation in the land. The place later was known as Kannan Devan. Munnar is known for its beautiful tea plantation that is spread over large areas.

Best time to visit this hill station is between August- May.You will feel chilly there as you move up towards the hills so woolen clothes should be packed.
The best time to visit and explore Munnar is between the months of October and May, when the rains are not continuous. The monsoon months between June and September should be avoided as it rains quite heavily in Munnar and surrounding areas

Hi,
We are planning for a trip to vagamon from Madurai by 15,aug.Is it good to travel there by this time since i heard a lot about land slides and heavy rain there.We are planning to go in car(self driving).
