How to Reach Parambikulam
By Air – Situated 8 Km from the city of Coimabatore at Peelamendu, the Coimbatore Airport in Tamil Nadu is the closest air link to Parambikulam. With just one terminal catering to domestic and international carriers the airport is a small transit centre abundant in basic facilities and bustling with activity. Only a handful of the state’s transport facilities seem to serve the airport. To start with, the arrival hall has prepaid cab counters queued up at the corner. On a closer look, you can spot the one supervised by airport authorities.
By Bus–
Buses can surely wreck your spine but may prove to be cheaper than the taxis. Direct buses run by private operators are quite convenient and can be booked online. KSRTC buses run by the state department may or may not be well managed, yet extremely affordable in comparison. Their schedules are available at the official website. Some of them may drop you at Palakkad, which is located 89 Km from Parambikulam while others may stop at Pollachi, placed 44 Km away. Palakkad is plied to Parambikulam by taxis, autos and buses.
Rail – Pollachi in Tamil Nadu is the closest railhead and has train connections from Coimbatore and Palakkad. Both Coimbatore (88 km from Parambikulam) and Palakkad (97 km from the Sanctuary) are important railway junctions, with a number of trains coming in from even as far as Delhi. Once you’ve made it to Coimbatore, choose between a taxi or a connecting train to Pollachi, where you’ll have to embark one of the regular buses to Parambikulam.
Touring the city is possible by jeep or by boat; both can be hired from the park authorities. Alternatively you can view wildlife from one of Parambikulam”s two watchtowers. One watchtower is at Anappadi (8 km from Thunakadavu) and the other is at Zungam, 5 km from Thunakadavu The tourist infrastructure at the park is just about average, so you can always resort to a private coach for a comfy ride.
