The Mallam Durga Parameshwari Temple in Kerala has very much significance for the devotees. This temple is located in Muliyar Village. The temple is near Bovikanam in Muliyar village about 10 kilometers away from Kasargod district of Kerala.
The reigning idol of this temple is Goddess Durga Parameshwari which is being worship with great devotion and respect. The special feature of the Mallam Durga Parameshwari Temple is daily Annadanam which consists of distributing food among the devotees and poor. On regular basis during Tuesdays and Fridays the temple grounds are crowded with devotees for darshan or glimpse of the Goddess.They offer their prayers seeking a prosperous future and a happy living from the Goddess. The Annual Festival at Mallam Durga Parameshwari Temple is celebrated every year and lasts for 7 days and it is a time for happiness and festivity among the devotees.
History
The temple has its own history and mythological legends which dignify the importance of temple. Stories say that Goddess Durga killed the demon Daruka.The same happened in the other parts of India it is Mahisasura whom she killed. Goddess Durga Parameshwari killed the two dangerous demons known as Chanda and Munda. She is the avatar of Shakti on earth. It is the divine power that enables the sustenance on earth. She is therefore armed with Shiva’s trident, Kumaara’s spear, Indra’s thunderbolt and Vishnu’s discus and mace. Enamored by the striking beauty of the Goddess, Chanda and Munda wanted to marry her.Then the Goddess became so angry that she demolished them instantly much to the relief of mankind who was also disturbed by them.
Women devotees also keep fast in the name of the Goddess showing her respect and as per belief of that she will fulfill all their wishes. During the annual festival thousands of devotees come here and pray for their good life and for the fulfillment of their wishes. This annual festival lasts for seven days.
