Trichennamangalam Mahadevar Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in Adoor Town of Pathanamthitta District of Kerala . The temple is a crowning example of sculptural excellence and scientific design of ancient times. Along with Lord Shiva there are temples dedicated to many other God’s in the temple Complex. On the western side of the same sanctum sanctorum, ‘Sree Parvathi’ is installed and close to this in ‘KanniMoola’ is ‘BalaGanapathi’. On the northern side of the main temple Durga Devi is installed.
Arat Festival is celebrated here every year and the festival commences after the ceremonial flag of the temple is hoisted on the birthday of Mahadeva, which falls in the month of Kumbham.
Oblations in the Mahadevar Temple
- Ashta Dravya Ganapathi Homam– Ashta Dravya is done to please the Lord Ganesh Idol enshrined here in the temple.
- Mrithunjaya Homam – This is done to get rid of diseases , death and other misfortunes in one’s life. Once in a day only one oblation is done. Devotee’s have to book previously and wait for there chance to offers and please Lord Shiva with there offerings.
- Dhara– Dhara is done to overcome miseries in one life by offering Lord Shiva water , milk and other things.
- Panthiru Nazhi Payasam– Lord Mahadeva likes this offering in which rice payasam with 12 measures of rice is made and consecrated to Him. The devotees get ‘Prasadam’ from this offering.
- Bhasmam Charthu– It is an important oblation here
- Udayastamana Pooja– It is done to overcome difficultiesin the life.
- Ulsavabali– This is an important offering given from the 2nd day of hoisting the ceremonial flag to the 9th day, everyday.
- Kodiekeezhil Para-To please the Lord and also to secure one’s objectives in life, devotees think that performance of this rite for all the 10 days of this festival is very important. During these days, there is enormous rush of people for the performance of this offering.
- Sarpabali – This is an oblation aimed at pleasing the serpents.

By Road– The Temple is located at a distance of 4 Kms from Adoor and near to Kayamakulam – Punaloor Road. various Buses , cabs and auto rickshaws are available near the Adoor KSRTC Bus stand to reach Trichennamagalam Mahadevar temple at nominal fare.
